The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) are happy to announce the honoree, performers, and host of the 21st Annual “Sing Out For Freedom” profit live performance going down on Monday, November 13 at 7:30pm on the NYU Skirball Middle (566 LaGuardia Place). “Sing Out For Freedom” was established to shine a lightweight on social injustices and civil rights points by means of an unforgettable, curated evening, that includes track, spoken phrase, and different performing arts.
This 21st version will honor entertainer and recording artist Peppermint (Hulu’s Hearth Island, OUTtv’s “Name Me Mom”), who will obtain The Michael Friedman Freedom Award. Tony and Emmy Award-nominated author and TV host Amber Ruffin (Some Like It Scorching, Peacock’s “The Amber Ruffin Present”) will host the night’s festivities.
This 12 months’s theme is “Sing Out for Freedom: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Fabulous” and can spotlight the NYCLU’s work to guard all New Yorkers from discrimination, together with working with New Yorkers for Equal Rights to ratify the Equal Rights Modification and work with the ACLU Drag Protection Fund to defend LGBTQ+ Rights.
“Sing Out for Freedom reminds us that music, theatre, and the humanities are highly effective instruments for change — they encourage, change hearts, and drive individuals to motion. Within the face of an enormous rollback of hard-fought rights and liberties, the New York Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU are becoming a member of forces with performers to coach the general public, mobilize communities, and co-create a imaginative and prescient of a brighter future,” says Donna Lieberman, Govt Director of the NYCLU. “We’re bringing New Yorkers into our work to ratify the Equal Rights Modification alongside New Yorkers for Equal Rights and shining a highlight on our partnership with the ACLU Drag Protection Fund. Collectively, we’ll create a line of protection towards the wave of draconian insurance policies we’ve seen throughout the nation —to make New York a beacon of hope and advance equality, defend abortion, and combat again towards anti-LGBTQ legal guidelines.”
